Hajj: Nigeria airlifts 58,000 in 22 days
The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has airlifted 58,072 pilgrims back home in 150 flights since September 28 when it commenced return trips.
Commissioner of Operations of the commission Alhaji Ibrahim Modibbo Saleh told Daily Trust yesterday in Makkah that NAHCON was working towards completing the airlift before the October 27 deadline it set for itself to complete the exercise.
“We have achieved over 86 percent airlift of pilgrims since we started 22 days ago. Despite some challenges, the airlift has been hitch-free and many of the pilgrims who have returned home have been receiving their luggages and the Zamzam water,” Saleh said.
He said that while there would be three other flights that fly pilgrims back home with about 1,500 pilgrims, the number of pilgrims that would remain to be airlifted would be about 6,000 including officials as many of the states have completed their airlifts.
