Gunmen kill Katsina traditional ruler
Unidentified gunmen yesterday killed the village head of Birchi in Katsina State, Alhaji Abdulkadir Muhammad Birchi, in his house.
A witness told Daily Trust that 12 gunmen arrived the town on four motorcycles and forced their way into Alhaji Birchi’s residence at about 1am and killed him.
He was shot in his forehead, chest and stomach, and was later mutilated with a machete, the witness added.
Aged 82, the late traditional ruler is survived by three wives and 31 children. He has since been buried. The state police spokesman, DSP Sadiq Abubakar, said investigation had commenced and a suspect was already in police custody in connection with the killing.
