Arik Air grounds planes over wing-tip brush

Two Boe­ing 737-800NG air­craft be­long­ing to Arik Air were yes­ter­day grounded af­ter a wing-tip brush at the Gen­eral Avi­a­tion Ter­mi­nal (GAT) of the Mur­tala Muhammed Air­port, Lagos.

One of the air­craft marked 5N-MJP was be­ing mar­shalled out of the ramp for a sched­uled flight when its wing brushed that of an­other marked 5N-MJQ parked on the ramp.

Arik Air spokesman, Ade­banji Ola, con­firmed the in­ci­dent, say­ing the safety of pas­sen­gers was not jeop­ar­dized.

The air­line, ac­cord­ing to the spokesman, has grounded the two air­craft while look­ing into the in­ci­dent. Though Ade­banji did not dis­close the des­ti­na­tion of the af­fected air­craft, he added that an­other air­craft was pro­vided to meet up with the sched­uled flight.
