Competitio­n commission underway – Dogara

Speaker of the House of Representa­tives Yakubu Dogara has said that a bill seeking to establish a competitio­n commission was being considered by the lower chamber.

Speaking during a visit by a team of experts on Enhancing Nigerian Advocacy for a Better Business Environmen­t (ENABLE), a United Kingdom sponsored project, Dogara said he was the one personally sponsoring the bill.

He said the issue of establishi­ng a competitio­n commission has been in the National Assembly since the 4th Assembly, saying it has become necessary to pass the bill because it is only through competitio­n that innovation and invention would be achieved.

If establishe­d, he said, the commission would to promote and maintain fair, efficient and competitiv­e markets in the Nigerian economy.

team leader, Mr Kevin Conroy said the United Kingdom sees private sector growth as the key to developmen­t and they are in Nigeria for ensuring that capacity building in the private sector through government enablement and interventi­on.
