Mo­tor­cy­cle snatcher im­pris­oned

A 25-year-old man has been sen­tenced to 10 months im­pris­on­ment by an Abuja Grade 1 Area Court for snatch­ing a mo­tor­cy­cle from a com­mer­cial mo­tor­cy­clist.

Jamilu Ado of Suleja, Niger State, was con­victed for joint act and theft, of­fences con­trary to sec­tions 79 and 287 of the pe­nal code.

The po­lice pros­e­cu­tor, DSP Egwu An­thony, told the court that the com­plainant, Sun­day Adamu of Kagini vil­lage, on Septem­ber 29, re­ported at the Kubwa Po­lice Sta­tion, that the ac­cused, on the pre­vi­ous day, with two oth­ers presently at large, de­ceived him into tak­ing them to Zuba where they dis­posed him of his Ba­jaj mo­tor­cy­cle val­ued at N125,000 with­out his con­sent.

He said they zoomed off with the said mo­tor­cy­cle to an un­known des­ti­na­tion be­fore the ac­cused was later seen and ar­rested along FHA, Kubwa.

When the charges were read to the ac­cused, he pleaded guilty and the judge, Mo­hammed Marafa, sen­tenced him to ten months’ im­pris­on­ment with an op­tion of N20,000 fine.

The court also or­dered him to pay a com­pen­sa­tion of N125,000.
