Motorcycle snatcher imprisoned
A 25-year-old man has been sentenced to 10 months imprisonment by an Abuja Grade 1 Area Court for snatching a motorcycle from a commercial motorcyclist.
Jamilu Ado of Suleja, Niger State, was convicted for joint act and theft, offences contrary to sections 79 and 287 of the penal code.
The police prosecutor, DSP Egwu Anthony, told the court that the complainant, Sunday Adamu of Kagini village, on September 29, reported at the Kubwa Police Station, that the accused, on the previous day, with two others presently at large, deceived him into taking them to Zuba where they disposed him of his Bajaj motorcycle valued at N125,000 without his consent.
He said they zoomed off with the said motorcycle to an unknown destination before the accused was later seen and arrested along FHA, Kubwa.
When the charges were read to the accused, he pleaded guilty and the judge, Mohammed Marafa, sentenced him to ten months’ imprisonment with an option of N20,000 fine.
The court also ordered him to pay a compensation of N125,000.
