Kano wallop Rivers 12-0 to reach Para-soccer tourney semis
Defending champions, Kano State yesterday walloped Rivers State 12-0 to set up a semi-final clash against neighbours Katsina State at the ongoing 3rd National Parasoccer Tournament in Abuja.
Katsina State had defeated ambitious Gombe Scorpions 7-2 in one of the quarter-final matches.
Borno and Osun States also qualified for the semis after recording victories over Nasarawa and the Federal capital Territory respectively.
While Borno defeated Nasarawa State 7-2, their opponents in the semis, Osun State recorded a slim 1-0 victory over the FCT.
Secretary of Para-soccer Federation of Nigeria, Abdullahi Ahmed Libata said the men have been separated from the boys and fans will be thrilled during the semi-final matches.
He said after the group matches and quarter-final games played yesterday, the best teams have emerged to fight for a place in the finals which comes up on Saturday at the package B of the Abuja national stadium.
“We are gradually getting close to the finals which we believe will feature the best two states in the tournament.
“For now, it is the best four teams that are left standing but by tomorrow, we shall know which teams will play in the finals on Saturday.
“On our part as a federation, we are doing everything to have a hitch-free tournament. We are therefore looking at how we shall have a befitting closing ceremony that will come before the final match,” he said.
