Aisha Buhari makes case for malnourished IDPs’ infants
The wife of the President, Mrs. Aisha Buhari, has appealed to the governors of Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states, to act urgently about the nutritional status of babies and children in Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps in their states.
She made the call following the death of a malnourished twin babies in Zaria on Friday, a statement from her office said.
“She is grieved as a mother that children could be going through such appalling conditions in her country,” it said.
Daily Trust learnt that the dead twins and their mother were displaced by Boko Haram and had been at an IDPs camp in Yola, Adamawa State. The mother recently brought them to her relatives in Zaria, Kaduna State who in turn took them to hospital. But they died eventually.
“Mrs Buhari realizes that malnutrition rates for children are at a serious level in these camps, where large number of people displaced by the Boko Haram insurgency are gathered,” the statement said.
