CBN staff unveil N44m orphanage homes in Kuje, Gwagwalada
Members of staff of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) have commissioned two projects for orphanage homes in Kuje and Gwagwalada in Abuja worth over N44 million.
The projects were funded by the CBN staff through their personal and individual donations to the CBN Staff Alms Fund (C-SAF).
The fund was established in 2003 by the management of the CBN under the leadership of Dr. Joseph .O. Sanusi to address the problem of street begging and poverty.
The fund in 2009 approved the sum of N24.9m for Al-Ansar Orphanage Home in Kuje and N20.3m for a Male Hostel at Saint Mary’s Orphanage Home in Gwagwalada.
At the commissioning of both projects on Thursday, Governor of the CBN, Godwin Emefiele said other projects have been completed under C-SAF since inception.
Mr. Emefiele who was represented by Dr. Sani Doguwa at Kuje and Mr Lazarus Agbo at Gwagwalada commended the entire staff of CBN, customers and visitors to the bank for their magnanimous and selfless donations to the fund.
The wife of the President Aisha Buhari represented by Hajiya Maryam Salihu expressed happiness over the AlAnsar Orphanage Home urging other organisations to emulate the CBN staff.
The Al-Ansar Orphanage Home was as a result of a request for assistance by the promoters of the project, Al-Ansaar (The Helpers) to CBN Staff Alms Fund.
The first lady of Bauchi state, Hajiya Hadiza Abubakar while commending the CBN staff for the project reiterated the call to stakeholders to support such projects because of the growing number of widows and orphans as a result of insurgency.
At the unveiling of the Boys’ Hotel at St. Mary’s Home for Orphans and Destitutes in Gwagwalada, representative of the Home, Rev. Henry Udodike said appeal to the CBN requesting for the erection of the Boys’ Hostel was made seven years ago in order to give a decent shelter to the fast growing boys in the Orphanage.
“We were overwhelmed when the appeal received a positive approval,” he said.
Representative of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Mr. Lazarus Agbo assisted by staff of the apex bank at the commissioning of the Boys’ Hotel of St. Mary’s Home for Orphans at Gwagwalada, Abuja.
