Why former govs are supporting Saraki –Aliero
Former governor of Kebbi State Senator Muhammad Adamu Aliero yesterday opened up on why former governors at the Senate are supporting the Senate President, Bukola Saraki.
Daily Trust reports that Senator Ahmed Sani Yarima, a former governor, nominated Saraki for the Senate Presidency on June 9th when the 8th Assembly was proclaimed.
The development gave Saraki upper hand over Senator Ahmed Lawan, the preferred candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Our correspondent reports that since then, the former governors, numbering 14 at the Senate, have been solidly behind Saraki.
Twice, the former governors, who are serving at the Upper Chamber, followed Saraki to the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) where he is facing 13 count charges of false asset declaration.
In an interview, Aliero (APC, Kebbi Central) gave five reasons why they threw their weight behind the Senate president, who is a former governor of Kwara State.
“One, he was a former governor like us. So far, he is leading the Senate very well. So, I don’t see reasons why he should not be supported.
“He is giving the right leadership to us; he is trying to carry everybody along; he is very supportive of the Executive arm of government and Saraki is leading the Senate properly.
“Also, Saraki is trying to unite the Senate irrespective of political differences and factions, he tries to be fair to all and nobody is complaining,” he said.
According to him, “we will continue to support him as long as he is supporting what President Muhammadu Buhari is doing. If he goes wrong, we will not hesitate to caution him so that he can amend.”
