Daily Trust - - SPORT - From Ibrahim Musa Giginyu, Kano

Abdullahi Suleiman Ba of Jigawa State has emerged the overall winner of the third edition of the Gongoni Open Golf Tournament held at Kano Golf Club last weekend.

Ba, who emerged winner with 142 net, was also a bronze winner at the sport festival held in Kaduna State and his victory was hailed by most participants at the tournament because of his excellent performance.

Similarly, Aisha Abdullahi emerged the overall winner in the women category with 125 net. Speaking during the prize presentation, Captain of Kano Golf Club, Babangida Umar Gantsa stated that such tournaments are organized to keep the oldest golf course alive, even though the course has been facing some difficulties.

He described the presence of other golf clubs invited to participate in the tournament as encouraging, stressing that it was a good sign that golf has began to get ground in Africa as the game was enlisted in the upcoming All African Games.

Awards were presented to sponsors of the tournament and prominent personalities that attended the prize presentation, among whom was Jigawa State Deputy governor Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia.
