Ile-Ife shut down for new Oni’s ar­rival

Prepa­ra­tions are in top gear to re­ceive the newly ap­pointed Ooni of Ife Adey­eye Eni­tan Ogun­wusi at the palace to­day (Wed­nes­day) as the high chiefs of Ile-Ife barred dis­play of wares and other forms of trad­ing in the town to ac­cord Ogun­wusi a rous­ing wel­come.

The new monarch was ex­pected to en­ter Ife yes­ter­day from La­gos but sources said he had a stopover in Ibadan, Oyo state be­cause nec­es­sary tra­di­tional rites re­quired be­fore he could en­ter the town could not be com­pleted in Ife on yes­ter­day.

The source said “our Kaa­biesi (monarch) could not en­ter Ife yes­ter­day due to the non-com­ple­tion of nec­es­sary rit­u­als. He would en­ter Ife to­day to be­gin the corona­tion rites and other nec­es­sary ac­tiv­i­ties.”

The Lowa of Ife, High Chief Ola­soji Ijaodola told Daily Trust that Ogun­wusi would ar­rive in Ife to­day and ad­vised Ife in­di­genes and res­i­dents to come out to wel­come the new monarch.

Daily Trust cor­re­spon­dent who was in Ile-Ife learnt that mar­kets would not open to­day while there would also be a re­stric­tion of ve­hic­u­lar move­ment in the ma­jor streets lead­ing to the palace in­clud­ing the pop­u­lar May­fair Round­about, Lagere Road, Iremo road, Moore road and Enuwa area.
