IGR: Plateau denies col­lect­ing cash

The Plateau State govern­ment said yes­ter­day that it is not col­lect­ing in­ter­nally gen­er­ated rev­enue in cash as spec­u­lated.

Act­ing Chair­man, Plateau State In­ter­nal Rev­enue Ser­vice (PSIRS), Mr Dashe Ar­lat, told jour­nal­ists in Jos that taxes and other pay­ments are still col­lected elec­tron­i­cally through des­ig­nated banks.

Ac­cord­ing to Ar­lat, all tax pay­ers must ob­tain their Tax Iden­ti­fi­ca­tion Num­ber (TIN) to en­able them make pay­ments.

He said all lo­cal govern­ment stake­hold­ers have been warned against cash col­lec­tion, as a way of dis­cour­ag­ing em­bez­zle­ment.

The act­ing chair­man also said the ser­vice was out to en­sure that its monthly col­lec­tion in­creased to boost the rev­enue base.
