Speak­ers make case for agriculture

Farm­ers, agriculture busi­ness­men and women and other stake­hold­ers in the Nige­rian agri­cul­tural sec­tor in their large num­bers graced the 1st Daily Trust agriculture con­fer­ence, which be­gan yes­ter­day in Abuja.

Agro-al­lied com­pa­nies were on hand to show­case their lat­est tech­nolo­gies at the event.

Olam Nige­ria, one of the coun­try big­gest multi­na­tional ac­tors in the na­tion’s rice in­dus­try showed strong pres­ence with the var­i­ous prod­ucts from their sta­ble. Another rice miller who show­cased their prod­ucts were the Stine In­dus­tries Ltd, mak­ers of “Stiner­ice Gold” one of the new­est en­trants into the rice in­dus­try.

On the dairy front, Na­gari Dairy Farm also showed strong pres­ence with its prod­ucts and the new flour pro­duced from the farm’s new mill.

In the same vein, the Kaduna fed­er­a­tion of Milk Pro­duc­ers Co­op­er­a­tive As­so­ci­a­tion (MILCOPAL NIG Ltd) stormed the event with pas­teur­ized fresh milk, sweet yo­ghurt and qual­ity but­ter.

Fish farm­ers were also not left out with some of them bring­ing their new in­no­va­tions and tech­nolo­gies to the con­fer­ence for ex­hi­bi­tion.

Myra Fish Cen­tre took par­tic­i­pants through some of the no­table mod­ern­iza­tion they have in fish pro­cess­ing. Some of their prod­ucts in­clude smoked diced cat­fish, smoked curved cat­fish, smoked cat­fish filets, and fresh cat­fish fil­let.

No­tore, one of the big­gest fer­til­izer pro­duc­ers was also on hand with their lat­est fer­til­izer in the in­dus­try to in­tro­duce to the par­tic­i­pants. Many farm­ers were schooled on how the new tech­nol­ogy works.

Seed pro­duc­ers like Cap­i­tal Agri­cul­tural De­vel­op­ment Lim­ited dis­played the var­i­ous new im­proved va­ri­eties they have for in­ter­ested farm­ers. Their tech­nolo­gies ac­cord­ing to them are de­signed for dif­fer­ent agro-eco­log­i­cal zones of the coun­try.

Farm­ers’ as­so­ci­a­tions that were at the events with their prod­ucts in­clude Fed­er­a­tion of Agri­cul­tural Com­mod­ity As­so­ci­a­tion of Nige­ria (FACAN), whose mem­bers pre­sented many of their value added prod­ucts.

The or­ange-fleshed sweet potato farm­ers also took par­tic­i­pants through many of their prod­ucts and tech­nolo­gies.

Pro­duc­ers of var­i­ous Bee prod­ucts also show­case their prod­ucts.

Bank of Agriculture, Nige­ria Agri­cul­tural In­sur­ance Cor­po­ra­tion (NAIC), Jaiz Bank were all on ground to in­form par­tic­i­pants of ser­vices they can of­fered in the in­dus­try.

The con­fer­ence, which ends to­day, will see more ex­hibitors meet­ing their tar­get au­di­ence in or­der to build more net­works in the sec­tor.
