‘INEC appointments, a proof of readiness for reforms’

- By Muideen Olaniyi

The Association of NigerianAmerican Professionals in Nigeria (ANAPIN) has lauded President Muhammadu Buhari on the choice of Prof. Mahmood Yakubu as the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

ANAPIN President, Mazi Emmanuel Okoro, who also lauded the appointment of those he called ‘credible and competent individuals as national commissioners for INEC’, said the action displayed the president as a statesman whose appointments were devoid of any primordial sentiments.

Okoro said with the appointment of one of the Federal Commissioners, Dr. Muhammed Mustafa Lecky, to represent the South-South Zone in INEC, President Buhari had placed round pegs in round holes.

The ANAPIN President said Lecky, who served as the chairman of the Association’s Strategic Committee, had distinguished himself as a patriotic professional dedicated to the enforcement of the rule of law as a panacea for development in Nigeria.

He added that the road to free, fair, peaceful and credible elections begins with the appointment of competent, credible, fair-minded and patriotic professionals as INEC officials.
