Man ar­rested over ram theft in Abuja

The po­lice at Kubwa, an Abuja sub­urb, have ar­rested a 19-yearold man for al­legedly steal­ing a ram in Phase 2, Site 1 area of Kubwa, in the Fed­eral Cap­i­tal Ter­ri­tory (FCT).

The sus­pect, iden­ti­fied as Bashir Suleiman, was said to be op­er­at­ing in the area around 5.00 a.m. with two of his ac­com­plices when he was ap­pre­hended.

Daily Trust gath­ered that a po­lice pa­trol team ar­rived the scene of the rob­bery fol­low­ing a dis­tress call by one of the res­i­dents of the area and suc­ceeded in ar­rest­ing the sus­pect.

It how­ever learnt that the other two ac­com­plices es­caped, while a ram and four gas cylin­ders were re­cov­ered from the sus­pect.

In an­other case, the po­lice have ar­rested a 39-year-old man said to be ex­tort­ing money from res­i­dents through ‘spir­i­tual’ ma­nip­u­la­tions.

The sus­pect, Sil­ver James, was nabbed in front of one of the com­mer­cial banks while ex­tort­ing money from in­no­cent teenagers, who came to with­draw money from an ATM point.

City News learnt that the sus­pect, to­gether with his ac­com­plice, dis­guised as ‘Men of God’, to de­ceive their vic­tims, who they asked to drop cer­tain amount of money for prayers.

“He was un­lucky that day as neme­sis caught up with him and the po­lice ar­rested him while his col­league es­caped,” it added.

Con­firm­ing both ar­rests, the Kubwa Di­vi­sional Po­lice Of­fi­cer, Chief Su­per­in­ten­dent Nur­rudeen Sabo, said the sus­pects are in their cus­tody while ef­forts are on to ar­rest the es­capees.
