Mil­i­tant at­tacks on Ogun com­mu­ni­ties: Po­lice­men grum­ble over poor wel­fare

The mo­bile po­lice­men de­ployed to Imushin, near Iko­rodu in Sagamu lo­cal gov­ern­ment area of Ogun state to quell mil­i­tant at­tacks on in­no­cent res­i­dents yes­ter­day grum­bled over poor wel­fare pack­age since ar­riv­ing the com­mu­ni­ties last Sun­day, Daily Trust can re­veal.

Also, the tra­di­tional ruler of Imushin land, Oba Taiwo Ade­bunmi Bamg­bose yes­ter­day, led other chiefs to per­form tra­di­tional rites to stop the car­nage, which the monarch de­scribed as ‘mon­u­men­tal’.

The Spe­cial Unit of the Mo­bile Force from Abeokuta, which num­ber could not be as­cer­tained, had ar­rived Imushin, with a Ar­mour Personnel Car­rier (APC). One of the po­lice personnel told Daily Trust, "We have been left to face these boys on empty stom­achs. We ar­rived here on Sun­day, and apart from the N500 given to us on Mon­day, noth­ing since then. Some­times when we talk, they say, of­fi­cer is not sup­posed to talk. But, thank God, some­one like you can come down here to see things for your­self."

When con­tacted, the Po­lice Pub­lic Re­la­tions Of­fi­cer of the Ogun State Com­mand, Muyiwa Ade­jobi said he was not aware of the com­plaint. “No­body has com­plained to me about their wel­fare. I am not aware,” he said.
