Kano child Musa: Court rejects accused persons’ bail application
A Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Kano state has rejected a bail application filed before it by the two accused persons in the trial involving the 20-month-old maltreated Kano child, Murtala Musa.
The accused persons, grandmother and stepmother of the child, Hafsatu Musa and Zainab Murtala, were arraigned before the court for fracturing the child’s two legs and hands in six places, forcefully removing his three teeth, damaging his testicle, injuring his eye and ear and also inflicting injuries in his forehead.
At the resumed trial, counsel to the accused, Barrister Mukhtar Shehu filed a bail application before the court, saying the accused were entitled to bail.
However, the Prosecution Counsel, Inspector Shu’aibu Musa objected to the application, arguing that the offense committed by the two accused persons was grievous enough to stop them from enjoying bail gesture.
In her ruling, Chief Magistrate Maryam Sabo rejected the bail application, ordered the continued remand of the two accused persons in prison, and adjourned the case till July 21, 2016 for continuation.
