The Supreme Court has confirmed the four year-jail term passed by a general court martial on Corporal Isah Ahmed who was found guilty on a one count charge of defilement.
Justice Kudirat Kekere Ekun who read the leading judgment on Friday, said the Court of Appeal was right when it affirmed the decision of the general court martial that the prosecution had proved its case against the Corporal beyond reasonable doubt.
Corporal Isah of the Nigerian Army who works as a computer operator and teacher at the NAOWA Model Nursery and Primary School and the family of the victim all reside in the same block at Mogadisu Cantonment, Abuja.
Helen Waziri, the girl’s mother, had told the court that she had seen her daughter outside her school around 12pm when she ought to have been in her classroom. The girl was questioned and eventually admitted that Isah had slept with her. The court martial found out that he had slept with the 11 year old girl several times between January 2004 and March 2005.
The court martial then sentenced him to four years in prison. Dissatisfied, he went to the Court of Appeal which affirmed the decision but he further went to the apex court which confirmed the decision of the Appeal Court on Friday.
