Driver killed as bus crashes at Anini vil­lage

A bus driver has died while a pas­sen­ger sustained se­ri­ous in­juries af­ter their ve­hi­cle crashed yes­ter­day at Anini vil­lage, on the Abuja-Lokoja road.

A wit­ness said the in­ci­dent hap­pened around 3:17a.m. when a Peu­geot J5 bus veered off the road and crashed into a ditch.

He said the bus som­er­saulted thrice be­fore crash­ing and that the driver died on the spot, while one of the pas­sen­gers sustained se­ri­ous in­juries.

He said the res­cue team of the Yan­goji unit com­mand of the Fed­eral Road Safety Corps (FRSC), which ar­rived the scene took the corpse and in­jured pas­sen­ger to hospital.

When con­tacted, the Yan­goji unit com­man­der of the FRSC, As­sis­tant Corps Com­man­der J. G. Sam­bgaza, con­firmed the in­ci­dent and at­trib­uted it to over speed­ing and loss of con­trol.

He said the re­mains of the driver had been taken to the Kwali Gen­eral Hospital morgue, while the in­jured pas­sen­ger was re­ceiv­ing treat­ment at the hospital.
