Troops kill suicide bombers targeting Borno IDPs
The Nigerian Army said troops early yesterday shot dead two female Boko Haram suicide bombers who attempted to attack Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) in Monguno, Borno State.
A statement from army spokesman, Colonel Sani Usman, said the troops killed the attackers who targeted some displaced persons who were fetching water from a borehole on the outskirts of Monguno town along Marte road.
“Unfortunately, the explosive they were strapped with exploded and injured two civilians nearby. The injured persons have been evacuated and are receiving medical attention at the 8 Task Force Division’s medical facility.”
“The third suicide bomber that followed a different route detonated at some distance before troops deployed along the same road at about 7.10am,” he said. Usman said troops had cordoned off the area and imposed restriction on movement into Monguno.
