Omokore, oth­ers ar­raigned, granted bail

The Economic and Fi­nan­cial Crimes Com­mis­sion (EFCC) yes­ter­day ar­raigned an oil mag­nate, Jide Omokore and five oth­ers over al­le­ga­tions of an oil con­tract scam.

Those charged with him are a for­mer Man­ag­ing Direc­tor of the Nige­rian Pro­duc­tion De­vel­op­ment Com­pany (NPDC) Vic­tor Briggs; Group Ex­ec­u­tive Direc­tor, Ex­plo­ration and Pro­duc­tion of NNPC Abiye Mem­nere; a Man­ager, Plan­ning and Com­mer­cial of the NNPC David Mbanefo; At­lantic En­ergy Brass De­vel­op­ment Lim­ited and At­lantic En­ergy Drilling Con­cepts Lim­ited.

The de­fen­dants pleaded not guilty to the charges. Con­se­quently, the de­fence coun­sel, Tayo Oyetibo (SAN), Prof Akin­s­eye-Ge­orge, Lawal Ra­bana (SAN), Gordy Uche (SAN) and Afam Osigwe, pleaded for their bail on terms sim­i­lar to those they were al­ready en­joy­ing with the EFCC.

Jus­tice Binta Nyako granted them bail in the sum of N50m bond each and one surety in like sum.

The judge or­dered that the sureties must have landed prop­er­ties in Abuja. She also di­rected them to de­posit their in­ter­na­tional pass­ports with the court regis­trar.

Ear­lier, the judge struck out the name of Akanni Aluko, who is said to be at large, from the charge.

The case was ad­journed to July 19 and 20 for hear­ing.
