Omokore, others arraigned, granted bail
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) yesterday arraigned an oil magnate, Jide Omokore and five others over allegations of an oil contract scam.
Those charged with him are a former Managing Director of the Nigerian Production Development Company (NPDC) Victor Briggs; Group Executive Director, Exploration and Production of NNPC Abiye Memnere; a Manager, Planning and Commercial of the NNPC David Mbanefo; Atlantic Energy Brass Development Limited and Atlantic Energy Drilling Concepts Limited.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges. Consequently, the defence counsel, Tayo Oyetibo (SAN), Prof Akinseye-George, Lawal Rabana (SAN), Gordy Uche (SAN) and Afam Osigwe, pleaded for their bail on terms similar to those they were already enjoying with the EFCC.
Justice Binta Nyako granted them bail in the sum of N50m bond each and one surety in like sum.
The judge ordered that the sureties must have landed properties in Abuja. She also directed them to deposit their international passports with the court registrar.
Earlier, the judge struck out the name of Akanni Aluko, who is said to be at large, from the charge.
The case was adjourned to July 19 and 20 for hearing.
