Coun­sel’s ab­sence stalls Da­suki’s trial

The trial of a for­mer Na­tional Se­cu­rity Ad­viser (NSA), Sambo Da­suki and oth­ers over alleged laun­der­ing of N13.5bn could not hold yes­ter­day as the coun­sel to the sec­ond de­fen­dant was absent.

Da­suki and four oth­ers are facing a 19-count charge be­fore the High Court of the Fed­eral Cap­i­tal Ter­ri­tory (FCT) sit­ting in Maitama.

The oth­ers are a for­mer Direc­tor of Finance and Ad­min­is­tra­tion, Of­fice of the Na­tional Se­cu­rity Ad­viser, Shuaibu Sal­isu; for­mer Gen­eral Man­ager, Nige­rian Na­tional Petroleum Cor­po­ra­tion (NNPC), Aminu Babakusa and two firms: Aca­cia Hold­ings Lim­ited and Re­liance Re­fer­ral Hos­pi­tal Lim­ited. The pre­sid­ing judge, Jus­tice Hus­sein Baba-Yusuf, ini­tially stood the case down for a few min­utes but later ad­journed it to July 11, 2016.
