Ex-PDP chairman defends Ayade’s foreign trips

Daily Trust - - INSIDE POLITICS - From Eyo Charles, Calabar

A former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Cross River State, Ntufam John Okon has said that the state governor, Prof Ben Ayade, does not embark on foreign trips just for the fun of it.

Some concerned citizens have been critical of the governor for his “incessant travels abroad” in the name of meeting with potential investors, sometimes staying away up to two months without ceding powers to his deputy.

Okon advised the critics not to dissipate their energy as the governor was working hard to develop the state.

Speaking to journalists in Calabar, Okon said: “As someone close to the governor, I’m in a better position to know him than the critics. Governor Ayade has never traveled abroad without having the interest of the state at heart.

“You know that the economy is very bad and the only way to develop this state is to sell it to investors. How would people invest in the Super Highway, the deep sea port and other laudable programmes of the governor if he stays back in the state?” Okon asked.
