Troops am­bush Boko Haram spy

The Nige­rian Army yes­ter­day said a pa­trol team of the 157 Task Force Bat­tal­ion, 7 Brigade, on Mon­day am­bushed and killed a Boko Haram spy at Bar­wati vil­lage, Kukawa Lo­cal Gov­ern­ment Area of Borno State.

A state­ment from army spokesman, Colonel Sani Us­man, said the in­sur­gent who was on re­con­nais­sance mis­sion to in­fil­trate the troops’ po­si­tion, was killed while try­ing to en­ter a mil­i­tary lo­ca­tion.

He added: “The team re­cov­ered one AK-47 ri­fle, 59 rounds of 7.62mm (Spe­cial) am­mu­ni­tion, one 40mm x 46mm BGL2 grenade, one ban­dolier and three AK-47 ri­fle mag­a­zines from him.”

Us­man said troops had in­ten­si­fied vig­i­lance and high alert­ness as they con­tin­ued clear­ing rem­nants of the Boko Haram mil­i­tants in their area of re­spon­si­bil­ity.
