Farmers get reward for returning agrochemical bottles
Many farmers have been rewarded with money, generators and tricycles for returning herbicides and agrochemicals bottles of Candel products.
At a media briefing in Lagos, the Managing Director of Candel Company, Mr Emmanuel Kattie, said the initiative, tagged Candel Clean-farm project, encouraged farmers to return empty bottles of used Candel products, which posed significant health hazards to the ecosystem, and get financially rewarded.
The project, which he described as the first of its kind in Nigeria, was designed to keep the environment clean and safe, enhance the welfare of farmers and create excitement and fun for farmers through its ‘be a millionaire’ promo.
Kattie further said in the promo, 60 farmers would be rewarded with 48 generators and 12 tricycles and one person would be awarded with N1 million in a draw between June and November.
A Deputy Director of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Mr Shaba Mohammed, said returning of bottles to companies was a way of helping the agency fight counterfeit and fake products by miscreants.
