Makarfi extends olive branch to Sheriff He’s desperate – Sheriff
The caretaker committee chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ahmed Makarfi, has appealed to Senator Ali Modu Sheriff to accept his leadership of the party in view of the current judgment by a Federal High Court in Port-Harcourt.
But Sheriff rebuffed the call saying they must meet at the superior court.
Makarfi, who made the appeal while speaking with newsman in Kaduna, said while aggrieved members of the party are entitled to their views, they should give peace a chance.
He added that as far as he was concerned, “There’s no victor no vanquished in the matter.”
He said: “As we have said before, our committee was not set up to sideline anybody or witch hunt anybody, and we are not going to do that.
“For those of our friends who are looking at it the other way, they are entitled to their views but a legal pronouncement has been made.
“The convention has enormous power and when a vacuum arose, the convention set up our committee.
“No matter what name is given (to the committee) and whatever function or responsibilities, you don’t have to look at PDP constitution to see that,” he said.
Sheriff, who is the embattled chairman of the PDP has vowed to go to the Appeal Court to challenge the declaration of Makarfi as caretaker chairman of the party by the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt.
Speaking through his Special Adviser on Media, Inuwa Bwala, Sheriff said, “I recall we were the first to extend hands of friendship to Makarfi when we obtained similar judgments that reaffirmed Sheriff’s leadership.
“In any case, we’ve not seen any leaf from him, but, even if it comes, it’s belated. The law has to take its full course in the matter,” he said.
