3 die as truck falls on bus, Okada
Three men died and two others injured when a truck carrying a container fell at Alakija bus stop end of the Mile 2 - Badagry Expressway, Lagos yesterday.
A commercial bus and seven commercial motorcycles, also known as Okada, were trapped under the truck.
When the truck was lifted, all seven motor bikes and the commercial bus were badly damaged.
The General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Mr. Michael Akindele, who confirmed the accident, said the agency received a distress call via its Control Room (CRM) yesterday morning regarding the accident.
According to him, Investigation conducted by the agency’s Emergency Response Team (ERT) at the scene of the incident revealed that a 40ft container with reg number KRD 526 XP lost its brake and ran into the commercial mini bus with registration number EPE 972 XH, thereafter falling on Okada riders at the bus stop.
He said, “The agency’s Emergency Response Team at Capper in conjunction with the Lagos State Fire Service, the Nigeria Police Force, Lastma officials, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) as well as officials of the Lagos State Ambulance Bus Service (LASEMBUS) and officials of CCEC Construction Company were involved in the recovery operation. Five persons were involved in the accident comprising three dead (all males) while two persons sustained severe injuries.”
