3 die as truck falls on bus, Okada

Three men died and two oth­ers in­jured when a truck car­ry­ing a con­tainer fell at Alak­ija bus stop end of the Mile 2 - Bada­gry Ex­press­way, La­gos yes­ter­day.

A com­mer­cial bus and seven com­mer­cial mo­tor­cy­cles, also known as Okada, were trapped un­der the truck.

When the truck was lifted, all seven mo­tor bikes and the com­mer­cial bus were badly dam­aged.

The Gen­eral Man­ager, La­gos State Emer­gency Man­age­ment Agency (LASEMA), Mr. Michael Akindele, who con­firmed the ac­ci­dent, said the agency re­ceived a dis­tress call via its Con­trol Room (CRM) yes­ter­day morn­ing re­gard­ing the ac­ci­dent.

Ac­cord­ing to him, In­ves­ti­ga­tion con­ducted by the agency’s Emer­gency Re­sponse Team (ERT) at the scene of the in­ci­dent re­vealed that a 40ft con­tainer with reg num­ber KRD 526 XP lost its brake and ran into the com­mer­cial mini bus with reg­is­tra­tion num­ber EPE 972 XH, there­after fall­ing on Okada rid­ers at the bus stop.

He said, “The agency’s Emer­gency Re­sponse Team at Cap­per in con­junc­tion with the La­gos State Fire Ser­vice, the Nige­ria Po­lice Force, Lastma of­fi­cials, Fed­eral Road Safety Corps (FRSC) as well as of­fi­cials of the La­gos State Am­bu­lance Bus Ser­vice (LASEMBUS) and of­fi­cials of CCEC Con­struc­tion Com­pany were in­volved in the re­cov­ery oper­a­tion. Five per­sons were in­volved in the ac­ci­dent com­pris­ing three dead (all males) while two per­sons sus­tained se­vere in­juries.”
