Daily Trust - - NEWS - From Yusha’u A. Ibrahim, Kano

The Emir of Kano, Malam Muhammadu Sanusi ll, yesterday said for the past two years, Kano state has not recorded any form of polio disease, just as he urged people in the state to continue to support government in the fight against the killer disease.

Delivering his Sallah message at Kofar-Kwaru, Emir Sanusi said, “It is exactly 24 months now without any form of polio diseases in Kano. This is a welcome development not only to government but to the entire people of the state.”

Emir Sanusi said this could not be achieved without commitment on the part of government and the people, and urged the people to complement government efforts in the fight against polio by ensuring that polio vaccines are administer on their children.

He also called on the people to constantly clear culverts and drainage in order to minimize the persistent flooding wreaking havoc on various communities in the state.

“People should avoid dumping refuse inside culverts and drainages. You should also ensure that your environment is always clean so that you will not give room for the spread of diseases in our communities,” he said.

The emir also appealed to Nigerians to be patient with government at all levels as they were doing their best to cushion the effects of the economic downturn affecting the country.
