Mob sets ablaze suspected robber in Warri
A 21 year-old robbery suspect identified simply as Ese was yesterday set ablaze by an angry mob at Isoko quarters in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State.
The deceased who was alleged to be a member of a five-man robbery gang terrorising the area, was was said to be a bus conductor.
He was alleged to have snatched a commercial bus belonging to a police officer in Enerhen road in Warri but was mobbed after he was sighted at a bus stop yesterday.
According to witnesses, the irate mob hit him with hard objects before setting him ablaze. Over five suspects had been killed in the past two months in Warri and its environs through jungle justice. The Chairman, Vigilante group, Warri chapter, Mr Maurice Oliseh, condemned the act, saying jungle justice should be discouraged.
Oliseh said robbery suspects should be handed over to the police for prosecution. The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP, Celestina Kalu had warned residents against taking law into their hands. Seven persons among the angry mob who lynched the suspect have been apprehended by the police. (NAN)
