Vet­eran ac­tress Bukky Ajayi dies at 85

A vet­eran ac­tress, Al­haja Zainab Bukky Ajayi, died yes­ter­day at her Su­rulere res­i­dence in La­gos.

She was aged 85 years. She was born a Chris­tian but later con­verted to Is­lam in the early 1980s.

Her son, Kunle Fa­wole, told news­men that her mother gave up the ghost at ex­actly 11:45 a.m. Her re­mains were in­terred at the Atan Ceme­tery, Yaba, at 6:00 p.m.

Ajayi's sec­ond son, Ak­in­wande Peter-Thomas, said her mother was a lov­ing and car­ing woman.

"She was a very strict per­son, at the same time pas­sion­ate, con­sid­er­ate and a so­cial worker.

The late Ajayi stud­ied drama at the In­sti­tute of Drama, London.

She joined the Nige­rian Tele­vi­sion Author­ity (NTA) on her re­turn from the UK as a Pre­sen­ta­tion As­sis­tant in 1966 and was on the cast of “Vil­lage Head­mas­ter’’, a drama series that fea­tured in the 1970s. Ajayi also fea­tured in many Nol­ly­wood movies and was a doyen of sorts in the movie in­dus­try. (NAN)
