Dankwambo in­au­gu­rates com­mit­tee for Gombe ex­change cen­tre

Gov­er­nor Ibrahim Has­san Dankwambo of Gombe State has in­au­gu­rated a com­mit­tee on the es­tab­lish­ment of a com­mod­ity de­pot and ex­change cen­tre to im­prove rev­enue gen­er­a­tion and boost agri­cul­ture and other busi­nesses in the state.

In­au­gu­rat­ing the com­mit­tee at the Gov­ern­ment House, Dankwambo said that the ini­tia­tive was meant to boost com­mer­cial ac­tiv­i­ties and im­prove rev­enue of the state.

“The es­tab­lish­ment of the com­mod­ity de­pot and ex­change cen­tre is to avail busi­ness men and women the op­por­tu­nity to ac­cess goods and ser­vice with­out trav­el­ling down to our sea­ports, which we be­lieve will fa­cil­i­tate com­mer­cial ac­tiv­i­ties,” he said.

The term of ref­er­ence of the com­mit­tee un­der the chair­man­ship of Al­haji Musa Ya­haya Umar, in­cludes study­ing the con­cept of the pro­posed cen­tre with a view to in­te­grat­ing the strate­gic grain si­los into the project.

The com­mit­tee would also re­view the ini­tial cost of the project to pro­pose the best op­tion of fi­nanc­ing the scheme, sug­gest the most suit­able lo­ca­tion for cit­ing the project and sen­si­tise rel­e­vant stake­hold­ers on the project with a view to en­sur­ing its ef­fec­tive take-off.

Re­spond­ing on be­half of the com­mit­tee mem­bers, the chair­man said that ow­ing to the agrar­ian na­ture of Gombe, the cen­tre would help in di­ver­si­fy­ing the econ­omy of the state, adding that when fully es­tab­lished, it can gen­er­ate over N1bn, monthly, as rev­enue to the state.
