Dankwambo inaugurates committee for Gombe exchange centre
Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo of Gombe State has inaugurated a committee on the establishment of a commodity depot and exchange centre to improve revenue generation and boost agriculture and other businesses in the state.
Inaugurating the committee at the Government House, Dankwambo said that the initiative was meant to boost commercial activities and improve revenue of the state.
“The establishment of the commodity depot and exchange centre is to avail business men and women the opportunity to access goods and service without travelling down to our seaports, which we believe will facilitate commercial activities,” he said.
The term of reference of the committee under the chairmanship of Alhaji Musa Yahaya Umar, includes studying the concept of the proposed centre with a view to integrating the strategic grain silos into the project.
The committee would also review the initial cost of the project to propose the best option of financing the scheme, suggest the most suitable location for citing the project and sensitise relevant stakeholders on the project with a view to ensuring its effective take-off.
Responding on behalf of the committee members, the chairman said that owing to the agrarian nature of Gombe, the centre would help in diversifying the economy of the state, adding that when fully established, it can generate over N1bn, monthly, as revenue to the state.
