Daily Trust - - CITY NEWS - By Abubakar Sadiq Isah

Gunmen suspected to be armed robbers shot and killed two police men and escaped with their guns on Monday night at Tunga-Maje village, Gwagwalada Area Council.

A resident of the area, who preferred anonymity, confided in our reporter, yesterday, that the incident happened at about 10:12p.m. when the two deceased policemen were eating with their colleagues at a restaurant near a pedestrian bridge on the highway.

He said that the gunmen, who drove in an unmarked vehicle, opened fire on the policemen who had A-K 47 rifles, killing them on the spot.

He said that after taking their riffles, the gunmen sped off in their waiting car.

“In fact, some other people who were there eating and drinking abandoned their food and drinks and escaped.

Our reporter learnt that the policemen were on patrol between Giri and Zuba towns because of the rising crime rate on the road and decided to stop at a restaurant to eat when the gunmen targeted and opened fire on them.

When contacted, the Gwagwalada Police Area Commander, Mr. Olufemi Abinwaja, referred our reporter to the FCT police commissioner.

“Why not contact the police commissioner on the matter”, he said.

When our reporter called the FCT Police Command Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Anjuguri Manzah, on phone, he said that he was not aware of the incident, promising to call our reporter after he had enquired.
