A26-year-old man has been arraigned before a magistrate’s court sitting in Wuse Zone 2 for allegedly bathing his sister’s friend with acid.

The accused, identified as Danladi Emmanuel, was said to have committed an offence contravening Section 284(2) of the Penal Code.

The prosecutor, Barrister Dabo Yakubu, told the court that on May 29, the accused went to the residence of the nominal complainant identified as Jemila Yusuf on the pretext of delivering a goodwill message to her from his sister.

“He knocked at her door, telling her that he had a message for her. When the complainant opened the door, the accused poured acid on her body and told her that he was sent by his sister and thereafter escaped from the scene to an unknown destination,” the prosecutor said.

The victim is now receiving treatment as a result of the injuries she sustained, the prosecutor added.

During police investigation, the complainant maintained that she was convinced beyond doubt that it was the accused person that perpetrated the act because she could recognize his voice.

When the charges were read to the accused, he pleaded not guilty. The prosecutor asked for an adjournment to enable him gather all the facts needed for the trial since the accused person had pleaded not guilty.

Chief Magistrate Ahmed Usman Shaibu granted the accused bail in the sum of N2 million and a surety, who must be a civil servant not below grade level 13 and must be resident within the court’s jurisdiction.

The case was adjourned to August 18, for hearing.
