The Commandant-General of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, Mohammed Usman Jahun, has warned members of the group across the country against harbouring people with questionable character.

He was reacting to media reports that some insurgents in the North-east were disguising as vigilante members to unleash terror on members of the public.

Jahun said while he would not entirely debunk the report, the leadership of the group had developed a data base for all its members with clear and distinct identity cards.

The commandant further warned that any vigilante that was not on duty should not wear the group’s uniform and urged them to always report people with suspicious character to law enforcement agents.

He called on the federal government to regulate the operations of the group to avoid proliferation of vigilantes in the country.

Jahun pledged the support of his organisation to other security agencies fighting various types of crime across the country
