...Ikpeazu’s application for stay of removal stalled

Daily Trust - - INSIDE POLITICS - By John Chuks Azu

Hearing of the application for stay by Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State before a Federal High Court in Abuja has been further stalled by the extension of the public holidays in the country.

Justice Okon Abang had on Monday fixed Thursday, July 7 for hearing on the application for stay of execution of the court’s judgment of June 27, which sacked Ikpeazu over false tax declaration.

But the federal government yesterday announced the extension of the public Holidays to Wednesday 6 and Thursday 7, in view of the continuation of the Ramadan fast.

A counsel in the matter said with the development, the court would not sit until a fresh hearing notice was issued and served on parties.

This means the probable hearing date will be Monday July 11, same date the court’s vacation is expected to commence.

Ikpeazu’s team of lawyers comprising Wole Olanipekun, Kanu Agabi, Ademoyega Awomolo, Onyechi Ikpeazu and Mike Osuman, all of them Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SAN) had informed the court that the stay was to enable the governor exhaust his right of appeal at the Appeal Court, Abuja.
