Saraki, Ek­w­ere­madu’s case con­tin­ues to­day

The forgery case against the Se­nate Pres­i­dent, Dr. Bukola Saraki, his deputy, Ike Ek­w­ere­madu and two oth­ers filed by the At­tor­ney Gen­eral of the Fed­er­a­tion (AGF) and Min­is­ter of Jus­tice, Mr. Abubakar Malami (SAN), con­tin­ues to­day be­fore Jus­tice Yusuf Halilu of the FCT High Court in Jabi, Abuja.

Also stand­ing the joint crim­i­nal trial along with Saraki are a for­mer Clerk of the Na­tional As­sem­bly, Al­haji Sal­isu Abubakar Maika­suwa and his deputy, Mr. Bene­dict Efe­turi.

The four ac­cused per­sons were al­leged to have mas­ter­minded the use of a bo­gus Se­nate Stand­ing Rules for the July 9, 2015 elec­tion through which both Saraki and Ek­w­ere­madu took over the lead­er­ship of the se­nate.

Ac­cord­ing pros­e­cu­tion, to the the ac­cused per­sons by their con­duct com­mit­ted an of­fence pun­ish­able un­der Sec­tion 97 (1) and 364 of the Pe­nal Code Act.

The pros­e­cu­tion led by the Di­rec­tor of Pub­lic Prose­cu­tions (DPP), Mo­hammed Diri, is ex­pected to open its case to­day. The ac­cused per­sons have all pleaded not guilty and chal­lenged the pros­e­cu­tion to prove its case against them.
