Dam­bazau charges new po­lice mgt team on se­cu­rity

The Min­is­ter of In­te­rior, re­tired Lt. Gen. Ab­dul­rah­man Dam­bazau, has charged the new man­age­ment team of the Nige­ria Po­lice to step up its man­date as the pri­mary gov­ern­ment agency in charge of se­cu­rity in the coun­try.

The Min­is­ter spoke yes­ter­day at the dec­o­ra­tion of the newly pro­moted Deputy In­spec­tor Gen­er­als of Po­lice (DIGs) and the Force Sec­re­tary (FORSEC), who make up the po­lice man­age­ment team, at the Po­lice Head­quar­ters in Abuja.

Dam­bazau told mem­bers of the team to reded­i­cate them­selves to the three car­di­nal agenda of the gov­ern­ment which he listed as en­hanc­ing se­cu­rity, re­vi­tal­iz­ing the econ­omy and tack­ling cor­rup­tion.

On se­cu­rity, he re­minded the po­lice of­fi­cers of their task in pro­vid­ing se­cu­rity in the post-con­flict build­ing ef­forts in the North­east. He pointed out the need to work to­wards curb­ing vi­o­lent in­ter­com­mu­nal clashes and check­ing the ac­tiv­i­ties of mil­i­tants in the Niger Delta re­gion.

Ear­lier in his ad­dress, the Act­ing In­spec­tor Gen­eral of Po­lice (IGP), Idris Ibrahim, de­clared that his mis­sion was to bring back the era of fight­ing cor­rup­tion at all lev­els of so­ci­ety with the de­ploy­ment of po­lice spe­cial­ist ‘X’ squads to dis­man­tle cor­rup­tion in the pub­lic ser­vice.

The DIGs dec­o­rated with their new ranks in­clude: AIG Shuaibu Gambo ap­pointed DIG, Depart­ment of Fi­nance and Ad­min­is­tra­tion, CP Joshak Ha­bila as DIG Depart­ment of Op­er­a­tions, CP Maigari Ab­bati Dikko as DIG Depart­ment of Lo­gis­tics and Sup­ply, CP Hy­acinth Da­gala ap­pointed DIG Depart­ment of Force Crim­i­nal In­tel­li­gence and In­ves­ti­ga­tion Depart­ment and CP Em­manuel Inyang as DIG Depart­ment of Train­ing and De­vel­op­ment.

Oth­ers are: CP Fo­lusho Ade­banjo as DIG Depart­ment of ICT and CP Ab­dul Bube ap­pointed AIG, Force Sec­re­tary.
