Varsity workers protest stoppage of subvention
The various industrial unions in Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti (EKSU) yesterday paralysed activities in the school to protest government’s alleged stoppage of subvention to the school and six months’ salary arrears well as non-remittance deductions to cooperatives.
The unions that participated in the protest held outside the school were the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT), Non-Accademic Staff Union of Universities (NASU), Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities of their (SSANU), and Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
The aggrieved staff prevented vehicular and human movement in and out of the institution as they locked its two gates.
Speaking, Chairman of SSANU, Mr.Kolapo Olatunde, alleged that the government released subvention last to the school in December last year, adding that the staff had been on 20 per cent salary since January this year.
