Po­lice pa­rade 11 sus­pects over kid­nap of S/Leonean en­voy

Po­lice yes­ter­day pa­raded 11 sus­pects over the kid­nap of the Deputy High Com­mis­sioner of Sierra Leone to Nige­ria, re­tired Ma­jor Gen­eral Al­fred Claude-Nel­son.

Nel­son, who was kid­napped along the Abuja- Kaduna high-way on June 30, was freed on July 5 af­ter mas­sive op­er­a­tions by the po­lice.

Parad­ing the sus­pects at the Force Head­quar­ters in Abuja, po­lice spokesman, DCP Don Awu­nah, said op­er­a­tives of the Force had dis­man­tled the kid­nap net­work in Kaduna and en­vi­rons.

He said in a co­or­di­nated oper­a­tion based on in­tel­li­gence and tech­ni­cal sup­port, the in­tel­li­gence Re­sponse Team of the po­lice smashed the 11 man kid­nap gang that had for some time now ter­ror­ized Kaduna State, the FCT and other north cen­tral state of Nige­ria.

Awu­nah said the gang was re­spon­si­ble for the ab­duc­tion of Ma­jor Gen­eral Al­fred Claude-Nel­son, the Ex­ec­u­tive Di­rec­tor of Dan­gote Group and many other high pro­file kid­nap in­ci­dents for ran­som.

Awu­nah said the sus­pected kid­nap­pers in po­lice cus­tody are: Al­haji Rabiu Yusuf, aged 45 years who is the gang leader, Garba Abubakar also known as Habu, aged 27 years who is the sec­ond in com­mand, Yusuf Adamu, Hus­saini Musa and Shuaibu Idris .

Oth­ers are: Us­man Bello, Musa Ali, Muham­madu Abubakar, Suleiman Abubakar, Gambo Ibrahim, and Balarabe Mo­ham­madu.

Rabiu Yusuf ad­mit­ted that they car­ried out the kid­nap of the en­voy and re­ceived N1.5m as ran­som. An­other sus­pect named Umar is still at large.
