Pastor, 1 other sentenced to 7 years for scam

A Gombe State High Court has sentenced a pastor and his accomplice to seven years imprisonment each over conspiracy and obtaining money by false pretence.

The convicts, Pastor Emmanuel Markus Anga and one Atin Victor Generous were dragged to the court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over two-count charges.

The court heard that Pastor Anga and Generous, in November 2013, deceived one Mr. David Madison, appearing as employees of foreign exchange business, Gora Commanding Resources, which they claimed belonged to Philemon Gora, who is still at large.

Mr. Madison was lured into believing that his investment of N500, 000 would yield him 10 per cent interest as returns on a monthly basis, the court document stated.

However, he later discovered that the 10 per cent on his capital reflected on his account only in the first month of his investment, while all the effort to recover his money proved abortive.
