Police foil attack on oil facility in Edo
The Police said it foiled an attack on an oil facility by successfully detonating an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted on an Oil Well at Gelegele community in Ovia North West Local government of Edo state .
Briefing journalists in Benin yesterday, the state Commissioner of Police, Chris Ezike, said the oil well was being operated by Dubri Oil Company with headquarter in Benin City.
“On July 10, we received information that an object suspected to be IED was planted in the Oil Well at Gelegele, and a team of explosive ordinance detectives backed by tactical operatives were dispatched to the scene. At the scene, it was discovered that two objects suspected to be IEDs were planted in the oil well head, while two sack bags containing Amfo (mixture of Ammonium Nitrate and fuel) were tied to the oil well head,’’ he said.
He added that after close examination of the IEDs, it was discovered that it contained two detonators, a strand of cortex, dylatine (high explosive) power source and fire cable, saying that the IED were successfully detonated.
