Saudi Arabia has banned the importation of kolanuts popularly called “goro” during this year’s Hajj and will punish any pilgrim who smuggles the commodity, the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) said.
A statement yesterday by the spokesman of NAHCON, Uba Mana, said “By this, all Nigerian intending pilgrims are advised to adhere strictly to the Saudi Arabia rules and regulations on prohibited items. Also, State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Boards/ Agencies/Commissions as well as all the licensed Tour Operators are to properly enlighten their pilgrims on the matter. On its own part, the Commission will not hesitate to sanction any Pilgrim Boards/ Agencies/Commissions or Tour Operators which flout the instruction.”
He said the commission had commenced the coordination of capturing of data of intending pilgrims for the issuance of 2016 Hajj visa and that 15,531 pilgrims have been captured so far.
“The commission therefore advises all intending pilgrims across the country to immediately submit their e-passports to their respective State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Boards/ Agencies/Commissions for further processing,” he said.
