Coun­cil urges sup­port for ac­cred­i­ta­tion of lab­o­ra­to­ries

The Med­i­cal Lab­o­ra­tory Science Coun­cil of Nige­ria (MLSCN) has urged stake­hold­ers to sup­port lab­o­ra­to­ries in the coun­try that are seek­ing na­tional ac­cred­i­ta­tion.

Act­ing Regis­trar of the coun­cil, Mr Tosan Erha­bor, made the call yes­ter­day while re­ceiv­ing two units of mi­cro­scopes do­nated to the coun­cil by Partec Health­care Lim­ited, a Sys­mex Com­pany, in Abuja.

He said the sup­port would boost the coun­try’s health care delivery, re­duce in­fant mor­tal­ity and im­prove ma­ter­nal health through qual­ity med­i­cal lab­o­ra­tory ser­vices which will ul­ti­mately lead to the at­tain­ment of Uni­ver­sal Health Cov­er­age (UCH).

Erha­bor said lab­o­ra­tory ac­cred­i­ta­tion is to strength­en­ing lab­o­ra­tory ser­vices to po­si­tion the lab­o­ra­to­ries to com­bat HIV/AIDS, tu­ber­cu­lo­sis, malaria and other emerg­ing and reemerg­ing dis­eases.

Mr Bitrus Badung, Man­ager Op­er­a­tions, Sys­mex - Partec in Nige­ria, said the dona­tion was made with the be­lief that it would help re­po­si­tion the EQA lab­o­ra­tory at the coun­cil’s head­quar­ters to ad­vance lab­o­ra­tory qual­ity as­sess­ment, health­care and train­ing.
