Nige­ria pick Ok­ag­bare, Ogun­lewe, oth­ers for Rio Olympics

Nige­ria’s fastest sprint­ers Bless­ing Ok­ag­bare and Seye Ogun­lewe top the list of Team Nige­ria ath­letes to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games next month.

In a state­ment signed by Olukay­ode Thomas, Head of Media and Com­mu­ni­ca­tion Ath­let­ics Fed­er­a­tion of Nige­ria (AFN), Ok­ag­bare will com­pete in the sprints, long jump and the 4x100m re­lay in Brazil.

Oth­ers in the women 100m and 4x100m team are Madu Jen­nifer, Fran­cis Ce­cilia, Khadi­jat Sule­man and Ekpone Olivia.

Those picked to rep­re­sent the coun­try in the women 400m and the women 4x400m are Ge­orge Pa­tience Okon, Bamg­bose Mar­garet, Omo­toso Omo­lara Grace, Ge­orge Regina, Ajayi Yinka, Os­sai Rita Vi­vian, Mayungbe Bless­ing and Sogbe­san Ekun­dayo.

Oluwa­to­biloba Amu­san will be com­pet­ing in the 100m, Amaka Ogoeg­bunam (400m hur­dles), Doreen Am­ata (high jump), Brume Ese (long jump), Okoro Chinwe (dis­cus), Nwan­neka Ok­we­l­ogu (shot put) and Uhunoma Osazuwa (hep­tathlon).

Apart from Ogun­lewe, Eg­wero Ogho-Oghene and Mon­za­vous Ed­ward will be com­pet­ing in the 100m men, while Odele Oghenetega and Oduduru Divine are in the 200m men.

Orukpe Eraiyokan will com­pete in the 400m, An­thon Hicks 110m, Ukaoma Miles 400m, while Oke Tosin, Olamigoke Olu­mide and Mozia Stephen will rep­re­sent the coun­try in the shot put event.
