Rustlers kill 3 in Adamawa vil­lage

Armed ban­dits have killed at least three vil­lagers and in­jured sev­eral oth­ers in Tambo-Gimo vil­lage of Girei Lo­cal Gov­ern­ment Area in Adamawa State.

The vil­lage head of Tambo, Idi Wak­ili Sama, said the cat­tle rustlers stormed the vil­lage about 11pm on Tues­day and carted away cat­tle and other prop­erty.

He said the at­tack­ers fired gun­shots in the air, scar­ing res­i­dents who fled, be­fore loot­ing houses and shops.

The po­lice spokesman in the state, DSP Abubakar Oth­man, con­firmed the killing of the three peo­ple.

Girei area had re­cently seen se­ries of at­tacks by sus­pected herders fol­low­ing clashes be­tween them and na­tive farm­ers.

ýSix com­mu­ni­ties in Gire area had re­cently pe­ti­tioned the Na­tional Hu­man Rights Com­mis­sion over al­leged in­ces­sant at­tacks by the herders, ac­cus­ing gov­ern­ment of fail­ing to pro­tect the com­mu­ni­ties de­spite early warn­ings.
