A 41-year-old man has been arraigned at an Abuja Upper Area Court for allegedly touching a woman’s breast and other parts of her body without her consent.

The prosecutor, A. O. Urom, told the court that the accused person, identified as Favour Isah, was arrested following a distress call made by one Nma Love Onyechere, claiming that somebody had attempted to rape her housemaid (name withheld).

He told the court that the accused was reported to have repeatedly made passes at the woman, which she had severally shunned.

He said that on June 29, Nma Love reported that the accused person waylaid her housemaid and fondled her breast and other sensitive parts of her body.

“In an attempt to have carnal knowledge of the complainant, the accused overpowered her and dragged her into his room”, the prosecutor added.

The housemaid was rescued by her neighbours, who were alerted by the complainant’s scream, the prosecutor said.

The accused, who was said to have committed an offence contravening Section 268 of the penal code, pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge.

The defendant’s counsel, Barrister U. Samuel, applied for bail of the accused, which was granted by judge, Umar Yusuf Kagarko, in the sum of N30,000 and a surety in like sum.

The case was adjourned September 14, for hearing. to
