Rivers Utd, Ifeany­iUbah reach Fed Cup quar­ters

Rivers United and FC Ifeany­iUbah are through to the quar­ter-fi­nals of this year’s Fed­er­a­tion Cup after they went past Shoot­ing Stars and Katsina United, re­spec­tively.

Rivers United elim­i­nated Shoot­ing Stars 3-2 on penal­ties after full­time scores were 0-0.

Goal­keeper Sun­day Ro­timi saved two penal­ties for the Port Har­court club to stay in hunt for the cup com­pe­ti­tion’s top prize.

In another Round of 16 clash, goals by Madu­abuchi Ok­ereke and Suleiman Mo­hammed for Ifeany­iUbah saw off the threat posed by sec­ond divi­sion Katsina United.

Prime FC lost out to Warri Wolves 6-5 on penal­ties after 1-1 in reg­u­la­tion time.

Sim­i­larly, Eny­imba are through to the Round of 16 of the Fed­er­a­tion Cup after they elim­i­nated ElKanemi 3-1 on penal­ties after full­time scores stood at 1-1.

Striker Peter Onyekachi shot Eny­imba in front after nine min­utes through a sub­lime header off a Chima Akas cross, be­fore El-Kanemi drew level 22 min­utes later cour­tesy of Chinedu Ohana­chom after a blun­der by skip­per Chinedu Udoji.

Eny­imba goal­keeper Theophilus Afelokhai was the hero dur­ing the penalty shootout as he saved two of he kicks.
