Striker Peter Onyekachi shot Enyimba in front after nine minutes through a sublime header off a Chima Akas cross, before El-Kanemi drew level 22 minutes later courtesy of Chinedu Ohanachom after a blunder by skipper Chinedu Udoji.
Enyimba goalkeeper Theophilus Afelokhai was the hero during the penalty shootout as he saved two of he kicks.
