Kidnappers kill 2 policemen in Rivers

The Rivers State Police Command yesterday confirmed the killing of two Mobile Police officers attached to Omerelu Police Station in Ikwerre Local Government Area of the State, by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers.

The Command in a press statement issued in Port Harcourt by its Public Relations Officer, DSP Omoni Nnamdi, said the suspected kidnappers had killed the two police officers in an attempt to kidnap a victim.

He said the men of the Command’s crack team, on a tip-off, smashed the gangs and rescued five persons that they abducted, and that two of the kidnappers were fatally wounded while a number of arrests were made.

He said, “Our intelligen­ce led the police team to their camp where their hostages, namely Damiete Clinton Amachree, Weldly Udo Abasi, Deacon Sebastian Amenkhiena­n, Reverend Ogagarue and Ibe Onyebuchi who had been held hostage by their abductors in a bush at Ubima were rescued.”
