Kid­nap­pers kill 2 po­lice­men in Rivers

The Rivers State Po­lice Com­mand yes­ter­day con­firmed the killing of two Mo­bile Po­lice of­fi­cers at­tached to Omerelu Po­lice Sta­tion in Ik­w­erre Lo­cal Gov­ern­ment Area of the State, by gun­men sus­pected to be kid­nap­pers.

The Com­mand in a press state­ment is­sued in Port Har­court by its Pub­lic Re­la­tions Of­fi­cer, DSP Omoni Nnamdi, said the sus­pected kid­nap­pers had killed the two po­lice of­fi­cers in an at­tempt to kid­nap a vic­tim.

He said the men of the Com­mand’s crack team, on a tip-off, smashed the gangs and res­cued five per­sons that they ab­ducted, and that two of the kid­nap­pers were fa­tally wounded while a num­ber of ar­rests were made.

He said, “Our in­tel­li­gence led the po­lice team to their camp where their hostages, namely Dami­ete Clin­ton Amachree, Weldly Udo Abasi, Dea­con Se­bas­tian Amenkhienan, Rev­erend Oga­garue and Ibe Onye­buchi who had been held hostage by their ab­duc­tors in a bush at Ubima were res­cued.”
