Diversification results will soon manifest – Dogara

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has said results of the government’s efforts at diversifying the economy would soon yield results.

Speaking when he received the Africa Regional Director of the World Health Organization (WHO), Dr Matsidiso Rebecca Moeti, in Abuja yesterday, Dogara said based on the recent engagements the House had with some ministers, the diversification efforts had gone far.

“Obviously when that effort begins to yield results, there will be funds that we can set aside for the health sector. And we hope that in a no distant time that will be the outcome of ongoing efforts by all the arms of government especially the executive and the legislature.

“So if that one happens, we will be able to raise the budget but for now we have to make do with what is available”, he said.

Dogara also said the House was ready to consider a bill to support funds for health emergencies such as Ebola. Earlier, Dr Moeti expressed delight that the current government was giving priority to health to ensure socio-economic development of the country and assured that WHO would provide technical support to the country’s agenda of health development in universal health coverage and some priority projects of sustainable development.
