Nigeria’s unity non-negotiable -Buhari, Gowon
President Muhammadu Buhari has said that the unity of Nigeria is not negotiable while a former Head of State, General Yakubu Gown, said keeping Nigeria one is a task that must continue.
Speaking at the grand finale of Army Day Celebration in Gusau, Zamfara State, President Buhari who was represented by the Minister of Defence, Mansur Dan Ali, said the operational efficiency of the armed forces would be greatly enhanced to meet contemporary challenges.
He said the operation being carried out by the troops in Zamfara forests would ensure quick restoration of economic activities in the state.
Speaking also, a former head of state, General Yakubu Gowon, said keeping Nigeria one is a task that must continue to be done, and expressed the disappointment that in the past the insurgents were humiliating the national army in the battle field in the North East.
“The insurgents in the North East were degraded and are now on the run after the country witnessed a change in both political and military leadership,” Gowon said, and called on the army to look after the families of the officers and men who lost their loved ones in the fight against Boko Haram.
Military officers were given awards by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai, for their gallantry in the fight against Boko Haram in the North East.
